There have been four different national medical societies that have recently announced a new coalition that is aimed at promoting patient safety. The patient’s safety in cosmetic medicine and aesthetic surgery will be enhanced by using public and physician education. It is important for patients to be aware of all safety issues regarding these procedures.
The coalition is called the Physicians Aesthetic Coalition and it is a creation of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and the American Society Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Each of these organizations has active patient safety initiatives which are extremely successful. The coalition will represent more than 8,000 certified physicians that will help to inform the public of the safety issues that are related to cosmetic surgery. By working with these organizations, the coalition will be able to increase safety measures for any person who is considering having aesthetic surgery or cosmetic medicine procedures performed in the future.
The formation of this group is an excellent move for the world of plastic surgery when all reputable practices believe the safety of their clients is of utmost importance. This will also help inform individuals about the unsafe practices that are taking place at times within the United States or overseas, so they can make smart decisions about finding a reputable plastic surgeon that can deliver the results they desire in a safe way.
