As a plastic surgeon specializing in facial surgery, I hear a lot of questions about facelift surgery at my Tampa practice. This procedure is an excellent choice for rejuvenating your face, tightening skin, and taking years off your appearance. But while facelifts can produce beautiful, transformative results, some patients might be nervous if they don’t understand the entire process.
Never fear—our experienced, knowledgeable staff is happy to walk patients through the surgery process. This post will explain the before, during, and after of what to expect from a facelift procedure at Elite Facial Plastic Surgery.
The start of your facelift journey begins with scheduling a consultation. You can request a complimentary consultation either online or by calling our welcoming office staff.
During this one-on-one meeting, you have a chance to talk with me about your goals and desired results. This time is an open forum with one focus: you, our patient. I’m happy to answer any questions or discuss any concerns. Depending on your individual needs, I may also recommend other treatments that would pair well with your facelift (such as a neck lift or brow lift). Together, we can work together to develop a customized treatment plan best suited for your lifestyle.
We ask patients to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before their scheduled surgery time. This gives them a chance to relax and complete any final paperwork. Once that’s finished, one of our staff members escorts patients to our in-office surgical operating room, where a member of our medical team places them under IV sedation.
Once you are sedated, I begin the surgical procedure. The procedure involves lifting and repositioning the tissue and muscles of the lower part of the face, creating a refreshed, youthful appearance that looks natural. Because each procedure is personalized for each patient’s needs, the length and complexity of the surgery might vary. A facelift usually takes a few hours to complete.
Recovery and Results
The practice considers facelifts a “weekend recovery” procedure. Unlike a traditional facelift, which can take several weeks to recover from, my patients can expect to return to daily activities after 4 to 5 days. Patients can expect minor swelling and bruising during the recovery process. Prescription medication can help manage any mild tenderness or discomfort.
The full results of your facelift will become noticeable after the swelling has subsided. This process usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to complete.
