What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also commonly known as a nose job, is a cosmetic procedure that alters the shape and/or size of your nose. It typically includes the removal or alteration of bones and cartilage to create your desired result. There are many different nose shapes that rhinoplasty can fix. Some of the features of the nose that rhinoplasty can improve include:

No two noses are the same, so each rhinoplasty procedure will look different. During your consultation with your facial plastic surgeon, you’ll discuss the best approach to achieve your desired cosmetic goals.

How Can a Nose Job Improve Your Quality of Life?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that can help you achieve facial balance and as a result, restored confidence in your appearance. Confidence can transform anyone’s life as this changes how you present yourself in the world. If this cosmetic procedure helps you gain back lost confidence, it’s worth it.

Additionally, a septoplasty, a procedure to correct a deviated septum, is a type of nose job that has medical benefits. Septoplasty and rhinoplasty are often combined into a joint procedure known as a septorhinoplasty to improve quality of life both in cosmetic and medical ways. Below is a list of the most common ways that a nose job can improve your quality of life.

Rhinoplasty Cost

A typical rhinoplasty costs around $4500 to $9,000. This price depends on the complexity of your procedure which is often linked to what nose shape you’re trying to fix. While the cost is a common way to determine if you’ll be happy with a rhinoplasty surgeon, it shouldn’t be a factor when scheduling consultations. Instead, it’s important to learn about the plastic surgeon’s experience, education, and past client results. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Dominic Castellano, a double board-certified surgeon, he’ll walk through a more exact estimate of your procedure and explain any additional fees so you’re not surprised by any hidden fees after the surgery.

Rhinoplasty Process

The rhinoplasty process includes three steps: consultation, procedure, and recovery. Each step plays a big role in your cosmetic procedure and should be understood if you’re considering having a nose job.

Consultation

The first step toward getting your nose job is sitting down with your plastic surgeon during a consultation. During this meeting, you will discuss the facial problems you want to address, your desired results, and any concerns you may have. Your plastic surgeon will help outline the right rhinoplasty procedure for your specific needs and desires.

At Elite Facial Plastic Surgery, the consultation is free and Dr. Dominic Castellano is s double board-certified plastic surgeon that’s dedicated to creating a personalized rhinoplasty procedure for each client. When you meet with Dr. Dominic, you can rest assured that your rhinoplasty needs and desires are being heard, respected, and ultimately satisfied.

Procedure

Every rhinoplasty procedure is unique, but they all follow a basic approach to treatment. No matter your type of rhinoplasty, you’ll be sedated with anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will then makes an incision either on the columella, the skin between your nostrils, or within your nose. Whether you have an open or closed rhinoplasty, which determines where your incision will be made, is discussed in your consultation and depends on the specifics of your procedure.

Most rhinoplasty procedures will be focused on the bone, cartilage, and skin of your nose. This may include removal, addition, or alteration. For more specifics on how your rhinoplasty procedure will be performed, schedule a consultation with your plastic surgeon.

Recovery

Immediately following your rhinoplasty, your nose will be covered in bandages. Don’t be alarmed if you notice some blood on your bandages; this is a normal part of the initial recovery stage. During the first week, you will experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising.

Avoid doing any exercise, spending too much time in the sun, smoking, showering, or lying on your stomach. It’s best to keep your head elevated and avoid any direct contact with your nose.

After the first week of recovery, your stint and will be removed and the swelling will begin to subside. However, most swelling won’t be gone until after three or four months and there may be some residual swelling for up to a year. The residual swelling is often minimal, contained to the tip of the nose, and nearly unnoticeable. After one year, you can be confident that the nose you see is the permanent result of your rhinoplasty.
