Admit it…. You want them.  Full, plump, juicy, sexy lips.  You see them on TV, in the movies, and in fashion magazines.  All the stars seem to have luscious lips and you want to know the secret.  Right?

Unfortunately, many of us do not start out with full lips and as we get older, our lips start to shrink and get thinner.  So what is a girl to do?  Well, there are some temporary ways to either make your lips a bit larger or use make-up as an illusion to create bountiful beauty.

One way to make your lips a bit bigger is to slough off the dead skin by brushing your lips with a soft toothbrush or rubbing with a facecloth.  This will remove any dry tissue and aggravate the lip tissue which will respond by becoming inflamed.  You can then apply lipstick or gloss and be on your way.

Or, try a little cinnamon oil or black pepper to irritate the lips and cause them to swell slightly.  Only problem with this method is that it can backfire over time and dry the lips out.  This will ultimately speed the rate of aging and make your lips smaller without the constant stimulation.  Another method is to use an over the counter plumping product that contains chemicals to induce inflammation.  These can work short term but need to be used frequently and can be expensive depending on the brand.

The other suggestion is to use makeup to add dimension and make your lips appear bigger.  Some make-up artists recommend simply using a lighter shade of lipstick.  Others advise that you add a little clear gloss in the center of your top and bottom lip (over the lipstick) to give a poutier appearance.  Or you can add a little eyeliner below your lower lip to give the illusion of a shadow that makes the lips look larger.

While all of these tricks can work short term, most of us know that the stars are really not going through this process daily.  The reality is that unless born with beautiful, puffy lips, there is a strong likelihood that there has been some chemical enhancements.  Many women that are in the entertainment or fashion industry have learned long ago about the secret of dermal fillers for creating the look they want.

There are all sorts of dermal fillers on the market today that can plump up the lips and reduce wrinkles at the same time.  Unlike the fillers of the past, today’s smooth gel formulas can give anyone a natural look and not a case of “fish lips.”   The real trick is to find the right plastic surgeon that has the experience and knowledge to make the lips fuller without overdoing it.

According to Dr. Dominic Castellano, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Tampa, Florida, it is a combination of skillful injection of the best fillers in exactly the right quantities that craft the most natural look.  Dr. Dominic uses either Juvederm or Restylane Silk to add volume to the lips while keeping a normally smooth appearance.  “There is an art to injecting fillers in such a way that the outcome is attractive, not abnormally plump.”    Smooth gel fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane Silk will work to add volume for up to 4 to 6 months at a time.

These medications also help fill in the small wrinkles around the lips which will make the patient look younger as well as more attractive.  The chemicals in the fillers are similar to substances already produced by the body and so fillers will be safely absorbed over time.  When the product wears off, another treatment can be done to reproduce the desired form.

If you would like to enhance your appearance and want to learn more about how dermal fillers can work for you, make sure that you work with a well-qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon.  There are many different types of providers that offer discount injections whether in a party like setting or as an add-on to their regular business (think hair or tanning salons).  The problem is that these non-medical personnel are the ones that give the plastic surgery business a bad name with the abnormal results of adding too much filler, incorrectly placing filler, or using the wrong type of product.

At Elite Facial Plastic Surgery in Tampa, Florida, all procedures are done in an accredited medical facility by well-trained personnel operating under the direction of the renowned Dr. Dominic.  You can schedule a complimentary consultation to learn more about procedures to enhance your lips and facial features by calling (813) 975-3223 or visiting our website today.
