Brow Lift

The eyes are one of the most important features a person has; and often, they are the first thing noticed during interactions. It is no wonder why the eyebrow lift procedure, also called a brow lift, performed by Dr. Dominic in Tampa at Elite Facial Plastic Surgery is important to so many patients. As we age, gravity and muscle action depress the eyebrows. Lowering of the brows causes hooding of the upper eyelids and can lead to a chronic frown, scowling, or unhappy look. For many patients, this look does not represent how they really feel, so a brow lift provides a solution to the problem.

When to Consider a Brow Lift

An eyebrow lift serves to relieve the aging features of the upper face. Patients will see benefits in the form of a reduction in frown lines, smoothing deep furrows of the forehead, lifting of drooping eyebrows and opening of the eye area. As with our facelift, this procedure can have a positive, long-lasting effect on your appearance and confidence.

If you have noticed that your forehead is giving in to the effects of gravity, you are the perfect candidate for a browlift. Whether it is your forehead skin, upper eyelids or eyebrows that you are looking to correct, this cosmetic procedure will help you achieve significant results.

An eyebrow is not a flat line running lifelessly across the orbital rim, nor should an eyebrow be sagging. A correct, youthful brow structure should have the eyebrow perfectly positioned above the rim, with the end of the eyebrow finishing higher than the beginning and with an arch in between.

Over time, it is common to notice signs of aging and some may notice their eyebrow beginning to flatten out into a horizontal line while others may suffer from a more severe droop. For some, the brow droop is so severe that their facial expressions are compromised.

If you are on the fence about getting a brow lift, here are a few common characteristics of patients that decide to get their sagging brows lifted.

  • You have sagging eyebrows which negatively impact your appearance
  • You have deep setting creases on your forehead
  • You have deep lines between your eyebrows
  • You have discomfort from excess skin drooping over your eyes

Brow Lift Procedure

Forehead lift procedures are fairly simple and there are three ways your Elite Facial Plastic Surgery plastic surgeon may go about performing this cosmetic procedure.

Open Brow Lift: This process makes a long incision across your forehead. The incision can be at the hairline or in one of your forehead creases. Then, the professional brow lift surgeon at Elite Facial Plastic Surgery will proceed by loosening muscles, removing excess fat, removing excess skin, and repositioning your eyebrows to the optimal position for your facial structure.

Endoscopic Brow Lift: This form of an eyebrow lift uses a tiny video camera and minimal incisions. Small incisions are made throughout your scalp and is minimally invasive with the assistance of the endoscope.

Limited Incision Technique: This procedure combines both procedure techniques above. It does not use an endoscope however it has less incisions then the open brow lift. This hybrid form of correcting a drooping forehead does not target the main area being the eyebrows; however, it effectively corrects wrinkles.

As with all of our procedures, including facelift, neck lift, and injectable fillers, the brow lift is performed with the utmost care to ensure that the results look natural. It is important to our plastic surgery experts that the patient looks his or her best and that the overall change in appearance meets the desired results, but also looks healthy, youthful and natural. All brow lifts are performed in our state-of-the-art facility.

Although endoscopic approaches for brow lifts are commonplace, Dr. Dominic prefers the more traditional, open approach performed through a scalp incision. The scalp incision approach is Dr. Dominic’s preference for simple techniques that lead to an easy recovery and maximal results for the patient.

This procedure begins with an incision made in the scalp, over the forehead and then the skin is lifted. The frown muscles are partially removed, which eliminates the downward pull on the brows. Fibrous attachments of the brow are released so the brows can be lifted and repositioned. Finally, the excess skin is removed and the incision is closed.

Our brow lift can be combined with the following facial procedures:

Recovery from a brow lift will depend on if you combine the procedure with other facial rejuvenation surgeries like eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Typically, our brow lift patients can return to their normal, everyday activities within two to seven days after surgery. Patients may experience slight bruising and swelling; however, this will subside over the following weeks.

At Elite Facial Plastic Surgery, we strive to provide you with a simple, yet fulfilling experience. To learn more about an eyebrow lift in Tampa, please request a complimentary consultation online, or call our office at 813-975-3223.

Brow Lift FAQs

What can a Brow Lift do for me?

A brow lift can remove frown lines, smooth deep furrows in the forehead, lift heavy or drooping eyebrows, and open up the eye area, resulting in a more youthful relaxed look to the upper face.

What is the difference between a Brow Lift and a Facelift?

A facelift addresses the lower portion of the face, not the area around and above the eyes.

Can a Brow Lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Many patients choose to have a forehead lift in combination with a facelift, eyelid lift, BOTOX® and/or laser skin resurfacing.

Will a Brow Lift leave scars?

All surgeries leave some scarring. The crucial question is whether those scars will be visible. During a forehead lift the incisions are made in the hairline, so scars are not usually visible.

What is recovery like?

There will be some initial swelling and bruising, which is usually mild and will begin to subside in a few days, and should disappear in about two weeks. You may also experience some numbness which will go away gradually. You can resume normal, light activity at this point, but should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for three to four weeks.

How long will the results last?

Several years. A brow lift does not stop the aging process, but you will always look younger than you would have without the surgery.

Are there alternatives to Brow Lift surgery?

Yes. During your complimentary initial consultation we will discuss your needs and goals, and depending on your unique needs, you may find that BOTOX® Cosmetic, laser skin resurfacing, and/or an eyelid lift will better suit your needs.
