What Does Rhinoplasty Do?

A rhinoplasty, colloquially known as a “nose job,” is a complex medical procedure that reshapes the cartilage and tissues of the nose. Rhinoplasties are performed for both cosmetic and reconstructive reasons, and there are a variety of techniques facial plastic surgeons use to achieve stunning results.

Experienced facial plastic surgeons know that symmetry and balance are essential principles when performing a Hispanic rhinoplasty. However, Dr. Dominic appreciates that there are different beauty standards within Florida’s many ethnic groups. Dr. Dominic works with patients to help them build the nose they desire, not a cookie-cutter shape. At Elite Facial Plastic Surgery, the whole patient always comes first.

Types of Hispanic Nose Jobs

There are many types of Hispanic rhinoplasty procedures available in Tampa. The most common nose shapes for rhinoplasty are:

A bulbous tip rhinoplasty procedure reshapes the tip of the nose to achieve the desired size, balance, and thinness. Bulbous tips result from an excess amount of cartilage at the tip of the nose. To achieve your desired cosmetic shape, Dr. Dominic shaves and sculpts the cartilage.

This is an open rhinoplasty procedure, which is more invasive than a closed rhinoplasty procedure.

For patients who have a wider nose than they’d like, a plastic surgeon might suggest a wide nose rhinoplasty. This procedure aims to thin out the dorsum, the bone, and cartilage structure between your eyes. A wide nose rhinoplasty will straighten broken or crooked noses.

The underlying cartilage and the nasal bones at the bridge determine a nose’s shape. To correct for a wide nose, the plastic surgeon may have to break and reset a patient’s nose – a procedure called a nasal osteotomy. This and resection or removal of part of the cartilage may be necessary to achieve your desired shape.

Dorsal hump reduction is one of the more common rhinoplasty procedures. Dorsal humps result from excess cartilage or bone along the nasal bridge. The procedure is usually an open rhinoplasty in which the plastic surgeon sands down the cartilage and bone through an incision in the patient’s columella until the desired look is achieved.

Thick skin rhinoplasty is considered an additive procedure. Rhinoplasty procedures are subtractive when thin skin covers a client’s nose. This means Dr. Dominic removes cartilage or bone to achieve the desired look. However, subtractive procedures are not as noticeable for patients with thicker skin. Instead, the plastic surgeon adds bone and cartilage grafts to reshape a patient’s nose. Additionally, the plastic surgeon may reduce your skin’s thickness by reducing subcutaneous layers of fat under your skin.

Low nasal bridges can result in a patient’s nose appearing flat when viewed in profile. A flat nose can be a genetic trait, or it can result from trauma to the face. To correct this, a plastic surgeon performs an open rhinoplasty and adds to the cartilage of the dorsum and the bridge to raise the nose to the desired angle.

Hispanic Rhinoplasty Techniques

The two primary nose job techniques we use at Elite Facial Plastic Surgery are called open and closed rhinoplasty. The main difference between the two lay in each procedure’s invasiveness.

This is a less invasive procedure because it uses two hidden incisions inside the nostrils to reshape your nose. There are no visible scars, and healing is usually a bit faster. However, the facial plastic surgeon has limited visibility, which makes this ideal only for simpler procedures.

This is a more invasive procedure because it involves an incision on the columella – the cartilage bridge between your nostrils. This incision is in addition to the two made inside of the nostrils. Because it is more involved and invasive, healing for this procedure takes much longer than for closed rhinoplasty.

This additional incision gives your plastic surgeon optimal visibility which allows them to perfor

Hispanic Rhinoplasty Recovery

Both open and closed rhinoplasties are usually outpatient procedures – meaning you’ll be in and out the same day. However, the recovery time for rhinoplasty varies greatly depending on the amount of work you get done. Generally, patients can return to their regular routines within a week for closed rhinoplasties.

The cast stays on for at least a week, but swelling and discomfort can last over a month. For open rhinoplasties, the swelling and healing often take longer because there are generally more alterations made during open rhinoplasty. It’s common for some parts of the nose, such as the tip to retain swelling and fluid for up to a year.

Hispanic Nose Job Results

Patients will start to see results for less invasive procedures as soon as the cast comes off, which can be as soon as a week after the procedure. For more invasive procedures that result in greater swelling, it may take longer for patients to see the results as intended.

Rhinoplasties are permanent, which means you won’t need another procedure!

Combined Procedures

Many patients opt to receive multiple procedures during the same visit to save time and money. Dr. Dominic routinely performs combined procedures for patients who want to get the maximum amount of work done in a single session.

Rhinoplasty and Facelift

Many patients decide to combine their Hispanic rhinoplasty with a facelift to complement their new nose. Facelifts are procedures that rejuvenate the appearance of facial skin, reduce sagging, and help improve the appearance of wrinkles and folds associated with aging.

Rhinoplasty and Chin Implants

The chin works in tandem with the nose to give your face unique characteristics and shape. Many patients seeking a Hispanic rhinoplasty may be interested in combining that procedure with a chin augmentation. This procedure can complement your new nose by keeping your face in balance.
