Facelifts for men are often not spoken about because they’ve always been thought of as something that women may do. But in actuality, that’s not true.
For most men, what they really want to focus on is getting the neckline more defined. In these cases, a neck lift may be the best treatment option. However, in some patients who start to have significant jowling and laxity along the jawline, that’s where a facelift comes into play.
Elite Facial Plastic Surgery is a specialized practice focused on advanced facial rejuvenation procedures, helping patients achieve natural, refined results tailored to their goals.

How Is a Male Facelift Different From a Female Facelift?
One of the first things that comes to mind is incision placement.
For women, we normally try to camouflage that incision by following the contour of the ear, whether you’re behind this cartilage, called the tragus, or just in front of it. For women, that works well.
For men, we’re normally going to be in front of that. We normally like to utilize the natural beard line as our incision line, then we bring it below the earlobe.
We tend not to tuck that incision or get as close to the earlobe as we would with women, because you don’t want to pull hair-bearing skin onto the earlobe.
What to Expect During Recovery for Men
What’s really important from a postoperative standpoint is that men tend to have a little bit more swelling compared to women. If you think about it, that makes sense, because male skin is a little bit thicker due to the hair component, alongside thicker muscle tissue.
With that, men have an increased risk of potentially having a hematoma, meaning a collection of blood. That’s why it’s really important for men to adhere to our healing recommendations and to wear a compression garment initially after surgery.
The other thing I would tell you is that men have to take it easy. Let’s face it, guys: we don’t like to take it easy when we’re feeling better. A facelift is not a painful procedure for men or women, but you’ve got to take it easy to prevent the swelling and to give your body time to heal.
Enhancing Your Results With Combined Procedures
Neck Lift
One procedure that can be considered at the same time is a neck lift. Many times, I’ll recommend a neck lift for patients who have a significant amount of neck skin. Essentially, when that skin hangs from the neck all the way down to the lower clavicle, doing a facelift by itself is not going to give the best correction.
Sometimes, you need to combine a neck lift with a facelift, and you also sometimes have to excise some skin. Men, unlike women, can have that excess skin excised, and that incision heals up quite nicely.
Chin Augmentation
Another thing to consider is addressing the chin. I’ve mentioned this in other videos when talking about the importance of the chin’s relationship to the jaw in your profile.
For men in particular, if you drop a line from your upper lip or lower lip straight down, you want the chin to be at that line on your profile, or just past it. You can often do a chin augmentation at the same time as a facelift, at the same time as a neck lift, or with all three, to be quite honest.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Another aspect that men often don’t think about is skin changes that have occurred over time. That’s where laser skin resurfacing can really enhance a facelift, because it helps get rid of blemishes as well as improve the wrinkles that have developed over time, particularly around the eye area.

Ultimately, understanding the key differences between male and female facelifts can help you make a more informed decision about the approach that best suits your goals.
There are multiple procedures that can be done at the same time as a facelift in order to get you the most correction possible and address those signs of aging that are bothering you the most.
