What Age Should You Get a Nose Job?

There are many concerns a person may have when looking to get a nose job, one of them being if they are the right age for the procedure. While plastic surgery can help a wide range of patient’s fix the shape of their nose, there are some things to consider when it comes to how a person’s age may affect the results of a rhinoplasty. The nose surgery may seem like it has a narrow age range, but rhinoplasties are exceptionally accessible for those that have been trying to get the nose they’ve always wanted.

In this article, we’ll discuss when the ideal age is to get a rhinoplasty procedure.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Get a Nose Job?

For adults looking to get nose surgery for aesthetic or medical purposes, there is no age limit restricting them from having the procedure. The one thing that could stop someone from getting a nose job is the lower age limit, which is 15 or 16 for girls, and 16 or 17 for boys.

This age restriction is in place because before either age, the nose of most teenagers is still developing and reaching its adult shape. If a surgeon were to perform on someone below these ages, the final results could be negatively affected as the teenager continues to grow.

For example, if a nose job was done to create a better nasal structure, the continued growth of bone and cartilage could compromise the work that was done and require a person to get another procedure done. However, every patient is different and depending upon when the individual has completed puberty will determine if surgery may be undertaken.

It’s also important for a teenager to be properly mature before they make such an altering decision to their face, as any hasty choices could leave them feeling more insecure about their appearance than before.

The Exception to the Lower Age Limit

The one exception to this lower age limit is when a teenager requires nose surgery for medical purposes. If the surgery is being done to correct any breathing or other health issues caused by a deviated septum or physical injury and is not simply for outward beautification, then a surgeon can proceed as necessary.

Can You Be Too Old for a Nose Job?

While there is no upper age limit for rhinoplasty, there are still some important things to consider before getting the surgery at an older age. As an individual gets older, their skin and the structure of their face begins to change and become different from how it was in their youth. A nose job may be able to correct some of this change.

It’s important to find a facial plastic surgeon who has ample experience working with older skin, that way, you know every aspect of your rhinoplasty surgery will be in good hands.

Ideal Age For a Rhinoplasty

Once a person’s nose has matured, there really is no specific time that’s best to get nose surgery. The ideal age range to ensure that a person’s nose has finished growing is dependent upon each individual patient.

What’s most important is that a rhinoplasty patient is mentally and physically prepared for the nose job process.
