Nose Job and Chin Implant

Are you considering a nose job and/or a chin augmentation? If you are, you might be wondering whether you should get the cosmetic procedures separately or together. In this article, we’ll outline the benefits of getting a nose job and chin implants at the same time, as well as the procedure, recovery, and results.

First, it’s important to understand the relationship between the nose and chin and how they impact your overall facial appearance.

The Relationship Between Nose and Chin

The nose and the chin are two of the primary parts of the face. However, the nose and chin work together to create a beautiful facial balance. If the nose is too short, then the chin can look too long. If the nose is too long, then the chin can appear weak. Just one of these facial features needs to be an undesired shape to disrupt your entire facial balance.

The nose and chin are so connected they should be thought of together when considering a nose job or chin augmentation. Without consideration of the nose and chin shapes, if you receive just one cosmetic procedure, it could still result in an uneven facial balance.

While best to consider in conjunction, below, we’ll break down the benefits of each cosmetic procedure on its designated facial feature.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

The nose is by far the most central facial feature. If it’s deformed or otherwise an undesirable shape, it can draw unwanted attention. A rhinoplasty can improve facial symmetry by narrowing a wide nose, correcting a bulbous tip, or straightening a crooked bridge. Below are the most common nose shapes rhinoplasty can fix.

A nose job can also correct nasal issues such as a deviated septum. This is known as a septoplasty but is often combined with a rhinoplasty, known as septorhinoplasty, to improve function and appearance all at once.

Benefits of Chin Augmentation

While the nose may be a more prominent feature of the face, if the chin isn’t proportionate with other facial features, it still results in an unbalanced appearance. An aesthetically pleasing appearance is created with facial balance, making a chin augmentation beneficial for several reasons. The most common are listed below.

  • Strengthen a weak or underdeveloped chin
  • Provide definition for jawline
  • Increase the width of the chin
  • Reduce the appearance of a double chin or jowls
  • Remove chin dimpling

The Benefits of Combining Rhinoplasty and Chin Augmentation

While alone these cosmetic procedures bring their benefits, together these benefits are doubled. If you have an undesired nose shape and a chin that’s weak or too narrow, combining the procedures addresses both at the same time. This combination ensures your results create a beautiful facial balance with all features.

That said, you don’t need to have a deformed nose or chin to benefit from the joint procedure. Making small, subtle changes to these facial features can create beautiful but natural results. Rather than making substantial changes to the nose and making the chin look unbalanced as a result, each feature gets adjusted subtly, benefiting from the adjustments of the other feature.

As we outline below, getting a nose job and a chin implant at the same time can also benefit the procedure process as well as recovery.

Nose Job and Chin Implant Procedure

When you combine a nose job and chin augmentation, you save money on anesthesia. Separately, you would need to pay for anesthesia twice, but together this reduces to a single payment. Each facial feature is attended to one after the other.

In a rhinoplasty, your plastic surgeon adjusts the bone and cartilage, whether breaking, removing, or adding, to create your desired shape. If you have a dorsal hump, the surgeon will sand down the bridge to straighten the bump. These procedures are either open or closed rhinoplasty. An open rhinoplasty provides more visibility with an incision on the columella, the skin between the nostrils, while the closed rhinoplasty is more limited with what can be accomplished but there’s no chance of visible scarring.

After your plastic surgeon is done adjusting the shape of your nose, they’ll turn their attention to your chin. In a chin implant procedure, your plastic surgeon makes an incision in the natural crease of your chin or inside the mouth. They then gently stretch the tissue to make room for the implant and add the implant to the tip of the chin. Most chin implants are made of synthetic material that feels like the tissue normally found in the chin.

Results

The results of your rhinoplasty and chin implant are permanent. This means the balance created by these combined cosmetic procedures will last a lifetime. While there may be minor changes as you age, they are often too subtle to notice.

You will begin to see your results as your nose and chin heal. This means you could start seeing the new shape of your facial features as early as the second week after your cosmetic procedure.

Rhinoplasty and Chin Implants Recovery

During the first week following your rhinoplasty and chin implant, you’ll have bandages covering these facial features. You’ll have some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. You may feel a stretched sensation in your chin after surgery. However, this should begin to subside by the second week.

By the second week, your surgeon removes the bandages, and you can return to normal activities. That said, you should still avoid strenuous activities. Within 4-6 weeks, most of the swelling will have subsided in both areas, and you’ll be able to see most of your results.

For some rhinoplasty clients, it may take up to a year for all swelling in the nasal tip to subside. This means it could take up to a year to see the final results of your nose job and chin implant.
