How to Support Your Recovery After Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty recovery happens in stages, and Dr. Dominic checks in regularly to make sure you’re healing properly. Here’s what you can expect:
Week 1
Swelling and bruising are at their peak, and you’ll wear a splint to protect your nose. Bandages are usually removed on post-op day 7. Keep your head elevated, rest often, and avoid strenuous activity to support healing.
Week 2
Most bruising and swelling begin to fade. Many patients feel ready to return to work or school at this stage, as long as their activities aren’t too physically demanding.
Week 1-3
Swelling continues to decrease, and your nose starts to look more refined. Stick to gentle exercise, protect your skin from the sun, and follow all aftercare instructions to keep healing on track.
Months 6–12
Subtle changes continue until your final result settles in. By this point, swelling has almost completely resolved, and you can enjoy your stunning new nose.
Answers to the
Questions on Your Mind
How much does a rhinoplasty cost?
A primary rhinoplasty typically costs around $11,000 including all fees. During your consultation, we’ll provide an accurate estimate, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Is rhinoplasty permanent?
Yes, surgical rhinoplasty creates lasting changes to the bone and cartilage of your nose. Non-surgical (filler) rhinoplasty is temporary and usually lasts 6–18 months.
When can I return to normal activities after a rhinoplasty?
Most patients return to desk work or school in 7–14 days, once splints and visible bruising have improved. You can typically resume light exercise around 2–3 weeks, and strenuous workouts and contact activities at 4–6 weeks depending on your surgeon’s guidance.
What are the different types of rhinoplasties?
- Closed rhinoplasty: All incisions inside the nostrils; best for subtle reshaping.
- Open rhinoplasty: A tiny incision at the columella for full visibility; best for complex changes.
- Septorhinoplasty: Improves breathing while refining shape.
- Revision rhinoplasty: Corrects or improves a prior surgery.
- Ethnic rhinoplasty: Enhances facial balance while respecting your heritage.
- Non-surgical rhinoplasty: Filler-based refinements with no downtime.
Does insurance cover medically necessary rhinoplasties?
Functional corrections, such as repairing a deviated septum or valve collapse, may be partially covered, but will not change the appearance of your nose. The cosmetic portion is typically self-pay. Coverage depends on your plan and medical necessity, so preauthorization and documentation are required.
