Dysport vs. Botox

Do you have signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin? If you want a non-invasive procedure, you’ve likely come begun to compare Dysport vs. Botox. Both of these cosmetic injections treat signs of aging for a smoother, more youthful appearance, but they still have many differences.

In this article, we’ll discuss each cosmetic treatment, how Dysport vs. Botox are different, and their pros and cons so you can make an informed decision on which injection is right for you.

Botox

What is Botox?

Botox in Tampa is a cosmetic injection that treats muscle-related wrinkles. These wrinkles result from repeated facial expressions, one of the most common causes of wrinkles. When you make facial expressions, a groove forms over time, especially as you age and your skin loses elasticity.

When injected, Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles, which makes them relax and smoothes the skin over top for a more youthful appearance. This means that this cosmetic treatment can’t address wrinkles that result from smoking, sun exposure, or other causes.

Benefits of Botox

While Botox can only treat muscle-related wrinkles, many types of skin conditions fall in this category, from bunny lines to crow’s feet. Below are some of the most common signs of aging that Botox can resolve.

  • Frown Lines: Also known as “eleven” lines, Glabellar lines are the vertical creases that appear between your eyebrows when you make facial expressions like frowning.
  • Crow’s Feet: These lines spread out from the corners of the eyes and resemble the look of a crow’s foot. Dynamic crow’s feet are visible only when you make facial expressions, while static crow’s feet are visible all the time.
  • Forehead Wrinkles: Forehead wrinkles form from the muscle contraction that takes place when we raise our eyebrows. These lines appear horizontally across your forehead.
  • Bunny Lines: Bunny lines are the creases that appear on either side of the nose. While these lines can remain visible all the time, they are most commonly visible when you smile or laugh.
  • Smoker’s lips: Despite its name, smoker’s lips aren’t a result of smoking. These wrinkles form vertically around the mouth with repeated mouth movement.
  • Hooded Eyes: Hooded eyes refer to the skin flap that forms between the brow bone and the lash line. While hooded eyes can be genetic, they become more pronounced with age.
  • Marionette Lines: These wrinkles form vertically between the corners of the mouth and the chin. Marionette lines can cause a chain reaction of sagging skin along the jawline.

Botox Cost

The typical cost of Botox is around $10 to $15 per unit. This cost will vary depending on the size of your treatment area and how many areas you’re treating in one session.

Botox Procedure

During this cosmetic procedure, you won’t need anesthesia or numbing cream as it’s generally painless with brief and mild discomfort at injection. Your doctor will insert tiny needles and inject a small amount of Botox into your desired area. Botox will only affect the intended muscle and won’t spread to other areas of the face.

A Botox procedure typically only takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Recovery

There is no recovery time for Botox. You can return to normal activities and work the same day. However, it’s best to avoid rubbing your face where you got the injection as this could cause the Botox to spread.

Botox Results

You can expect to see Botox results within the first few days, although it could take as long as one to two weeks. The results of Botox aren’t permanent. They last for three to four months, at which point you’ll need another treatment to keep your muscles relaxed and your face smooth.

Botox Pros and Cons

Like any cosmetic procedure, there are Botox pros and cons. We outline each below.

Pros

  • Treats many different signs of aging related to muscles
  • Affordable
  • No downtime
  • Fast results
  • Short and low pain procedure

Cons

  • Results aren’t permanent

Dysport

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a cosmetic injection with the same active ingredient as Botox (botulinum toxin) but is a different brand. This brand of cosmetic injections is a diluted version that specifically treats moderate to severe frown lines and forehead lines.

This cosmetic treatment works in the same way as Botox; it relaxes the muscles to allow the skin over top to smooth. Due to its dilution, Dysport spreads more easily than Botox, which is why it targets larger areas like the forehead.

Benefits of Dysport

Dysport treats lines found on the upper third of the face. Below we outline each sign of aging that Dysport can address.

  • Frown Lines: Also known as glabellar lines, frown lines are folds between the eyebrows. They primarily appear when you make facial expressions.
  • Forehead Lines: These horizontal lines stretch across the forehead and can intersect for deep folds of skin.

Dysport Cost

The typical cost of Dysport is $10 to $15 per unit. This cost will vary depending on the size of the target area and how many units you need per session.

Dysport Procedure

The Dysport procedure is nearly identical to that of Botox. It’s common not to use numbing cream, although you can opt for this if you prefer. You might experience pressure during the injections, but overall discomfort is mild.

The procedure itself will take only a few minutes.

Recovery

There is no recovery time for Dysport procedures. You can return to work and daily activities immediately following your treatment. However, it’s important not to rub your injection site as this could spread the toxin to other areas of the face.

Dysport Results

You’ll begin to see results as soon as two to four days following your Dysport procedure, although it could take longer. These results aren’t permanent and begin to subside after three to four months, at which point you’ll need another session.

Dysport Pros and Cons

Below are the pros and cons of Dysport injections.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Short and low pain procedure
  • No downtime
  • Fast results

Cons

  • Only treats frown lines and forehead lines
  • Results aren’t permanent

What is the Difference Between Dysport vs. Botox

With all the above information, it can be easy to get lost in the facts of each treatment individually. While these two cosmetic treatments are very similar, there is one key difference: Botox treats a wide variety of signs of aging while Dysport only treats forehead lines and frown lines. Dysport is also slightly cheaper than Botox per unit.

Is Dysport Better Than Botox?

While there is no one “best” procedure, there is a right procedure for you. If you have many different signs of aging, such as frown lines, bunny lines, marionette lines, smoker’s lips, and more, the Botox injection is right for you. If you specifically want to target frown lines or forehead lines, Dysport is the better procedure for you.
