Have you recently been in an accident that left you with a broken nose? If your nose is now crooked or deformed due to injury, a rhinoplasty can help you get back your beautiful appearance. A rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, corrects the shape of the nose by manipulating cartilage and bone. This cosmetic procedure helps establish a balance between the nose and the rest of the face so your natural beauty shines.
In this article, we’ll discuss how this procedure corrects your broken nose, what to expect in the procedure, recovery, and when to expect results.
Benefits of a Nose Job After Injury
When you break your nose, the bone and cartilage shift out of place. This causes bruising and swelling, and when left untreated, may result in a permanently deformed shape. Whether you recently broke your nose or this is a previous injury that didn’t heal properly, a broken nose rhinoplasty is beneficial for the following reasons.
- Improved Facial Aesthetic: A rhinoplasty can correct a crooked nose, dorsal hump, or other undesired nose shapes that result from injury.
- Improved Function: It’s common in nasal injuries to have a deviated septum. This can cause breathing problems, recurring sinus infections, and trouble sleeping. A septoplasty is the nose surgery that corrects this nasal deformity and is often combined with rhinoplasty for what’s called a septorhinoplasty. It’s both for functional and cosmetic purposes.
- Prevents Health Issues: Blood clots can form after surgery and, when left unchecked in the nose, break down the cartilage. Over time, this could cause the nose to collapse, becoming further deformed. Rhinoplasty not only helps cosmetically but ensures there are no blood clots that could cause future damage.
Broken Nose Rhinoplasty Cost
The cost of a broken nose rhinoplasty is around $4500 to $9,000. This cost depends on the complexity of your procedure. During a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon, they’ll outline a more accurate estimate of what your procedure costs and help you understand surgeon fees, the cost of anesthesia, and more.

Rhinoplasty Procedure For a Broken Nose
A nose job can be one of two procedures: open vs. closed rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty, your plastic surgeon makes an incision on the columella, the skin between the nostrils. This provides more visibility and is best for more complex procedures. In comparison, all incisions are made within the nostrils in closed rhinoplasty. This limits access to the underlying structure, but it ensures no visible scarring.
Regardless of the procedure, your plastic surgeon manipulates bone, cartilage, and occasionally tissue to achieve your cosmetic desires. If you have a crooked nose, it may be necessary to add bone or cartilage for additional structure. It could also be necessary to reposition the septum itself to correct the crooked nose.
For a dorsal hump, the plastic surgeon sands the bridge of the nose. It could also be necessary to add or remove bone and cartilage as well. For a more accurate estimate of what your broken nose rhinoplasty includes, it’s important to schedule a consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Recovery
Immediately following your broken nose rhinoplasty, your nose will have bandages and an external splint for support and protection. You will experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort. The external splint is normally removed after 5-7 days. However, the acute swelling and bruising around the eyes should start to subside by the second week.
At this point, you can return to normal activities such as work, but it’s best to continue avoiding strenuous activities. The nose will take 9-12 months to fully settle with the tip being the last location for swelling to subside.
Broken Nose Rhinoplasty Results
Your broken nose rhinoplasty results are permanent. They won’t change over time or as you age, so you don’t need any additional treatments to correct your broken nose.
Your rhinoplasty results will become visible as swelling subsides and your nose begins to heal. This means you can start seeing results as soon as the second week following your cosmetic procedure. However, with some swelling lingering for up to a year, you may not see your final results until then.
